Wireless headphones Apple AirPods can be used not only for music listening and hands-free calls, but also for spying. All that is required — iPhone with installed iOS 12 and feature “Live listen”.
With the help of this function, AirPods get access to the iPhone’s microphone. Originally “Live-listening” is designed for noise reduction during conversations, but users found that it is less innocuous use.
So, the owner of the twitter account Arnold reports that you can use a bunch of smartphone and earphones for eavesdropping. Just turn on “Live listen” and to move away from the iPhone to the maximum distance (in this case a Bluetooth connection should not break off). So you will hear everything what is happening near your smartphone, including other people’s conversations.
If u have AirPods 🎧, u can press “Listen Live” to “On” and leave your phone in the room with someone and u can hear what they saying, thank me later pic.twitter.com/fC6KYmqpB4— arnold (@arnoldcrndo) January 9, 2019.
This possibility is clearly against Apple’s policy on confidentiality. The company has not commented on the situation with the “Live-listening”. Meanwhile, the post Arnold has already collected more than 50,000 retweets.
