Apple has acquired American startup Akonia Holographics, which produces lenses for augmented reality glasses, according to Reuters.
“Apple Inc has acquired startup focused on making lenses for augmented reality”, — reports the edition.
Apple has confirmed the purchase of the company.
“Apple sometimes buys a small company and we usually do not discuss our purpose and plans,” — said the Corporation.
Akonia Holographics was founded in 2012 by a group of scientists in the field of holography and was originally focused on holographic data storage. In the same year, the company raised $11.6 million as starting capital.
Bloomberg last year reported that Apple is developing augmented reality glasses that can be sold in 2020.
