Investing.com on Wednesday, Apple announced that it started construction of a new campus in Austin, Texas, adjacent to the existing plant, which produces Apple’s new MacBook Pro, according to Reuters.
Chief Executive officer Tim cook is going to tour the factory in Texas, the US President Donald Trump later today.
The company has been criticized by the President because of the fact that most of its products are made in China, but cook and trump had a good relationship. In 2017, the US President said that cook promised him “three big factories”.
According to Apple, the new campus area of about 3 million square meters and a total value of $1 billion initially, will house 5 thousand employees with the possibility of extension up to 15 thousand Opening is expected in 2022.
Austin — one of the fastest growing cities in the United States with a population of about 1 million people. There is the University of Texas and technology companies, including Dell.
Currently, Apple has about 7 thousand employees in Austin.
The company also continues to expand in boulder, CULVER city, new York, Pittsburgh, San Diego and Seattle, said in a statement.
Earlier this year the launch of a new desktop Mac Pro has become a point of political controversy when the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple moves production to China.
