According to leading financial information provider Bloomberg, Apple has hired a head for the production of batteries, a specialist from Samsung.
Sunho An (Soonho Ahn), who previously worked in Samsung SDI, has joined Cupertino in December last year. Ahn was senior Vice President of Samsung lithium-ion batteries of new generation.
Apple is constantly working to reduce its dependence on third-party manufacturers, producing its own components for devices. At the moment, the company has been developing new technology microLED flat panel displays and processors for their Mac. Now came the turn and batteries. Last year, the “Apple” the manufacturer began negotiating the supply of cobalt (a key component in batteries), directly with mining companies.
