A week before the scheduled presentation, Apple unexpectedly introduced two new products — the new iPad Air and new iPad mini. Given that sales of Apple gadgets has decreased significantly in recent years, such a move on the part of the company’s management seems to be disastrous.

Apple, which late last year was disappointed in the gadgets and decided to develop the sector of services, unexpectedly announced two new models of iPads — iPad Air and iPad mini. Characteristically, a company known for its love of colorful mass presentations, this time did not make the premiere of the show — the device was presented via press release.
iPad mini has not been updated for three and a half years. Many analysts believed that Apple generally refused this model, as smartphone screens got bigger and the need for a compact tablet has disappeared. But it is not.
Externally, the iPad mini looks just like its predecessor the 2015 model year, but its “filling” has undergone substantial changes.

Unlike the iPad Pro, introduced in October 2018, the iPad mini still have the fingerprint scanner Touch ID, Lightning connector and headphone Jack. The tablet will be available in three colors — silver, space gray and gold. It will cost $399 for 64 GB of memory.
As for the iPad Air, it is a quite new device in the line of tablets. Unlike the iPad Pro, which is now a premium version of the iPad, the iPad Air is more or less affordable model. It also includes the A12 CPU. This iPad compatible with Smart keyboard. The cost of iPad Air is $499 for 64 GB of internal storage.
It is known that both of the new tablet support the Apple Pencil.
In the October presentation, Apple showed the new iPad Pro, which continued the tradition of the modern iPhones and in this regard has lost the mechanical Home button. It is available in two sizes — 11 inches and 12.9 inches. The thickness of the new iPad — 5,9 mm. comes with the sensor face ID like in iPhone X and iPhone XS.
Nevertheless, this gadget is 64 GB will cost $799, and the version with a diagonal of 12.9 — $999. Thus, the presentation of new, less technologically advanced but relatively low-end iPads can have a significant impact on the sales of the premium tablet, which is not even half a year. Given that sales of Apple and so are not at the highest level, it is not clear why the company decided to release competing devices.
Previously, Apple has published its quarterly report, which talked about falling sales of iPhones by 15% during the Christmas period. This is the worst rate over the last ten years.
Chief financial officer Apple Luca Maestri suggests that the negative trend will continue in the second quarter.
