The trial between Apple and Qualcomm have lasted more than a year. Against this background, many analysts believed that the cupertinos will cease to use the products in their devices by going to the modems from Intel. Recently these predictions was confirmed by the head of Qualcomm.
During the announcement of financial results Stephen Mollenkopf noted that in the future Apple is likely not going to equip their devices with Qualcomm modems. They must be replaced with solutions from the competition. However, Mollenkopf no doubt that the cupertinos will continue to buy modems Qualcomm for their old devices.
According to the latest rumors, iPhone in 2018 will be equipped with only Intel chips. Despite some flaws, the cupertinos have to give preference to these components. However, some network sources reported Apple’s plans to enlist the support of MediaTek. It is likely that already this year, the cupertinos will give about 30% of all orders for the modems to a Chinese chip maker, and in the next year, MediaTek could become a major supplier of modems for Apple’s smartphones.
