National activists from Belarus and some other post-Soviet countries and some regions of Russia are faced with a new problem for themselves: they are nationally oriented, often directly anti-Russian content is no longer allowed to advertise on the leading platforms of the Internet. The reason liberal censorship, became an ally of the Russian language for quite a funny reason.
Employee of us government Agency on global media, the resident of Belarus Frantisek Vecherka published in outraged Facebook post that the Moscow office of Google has refused to do commercial promotion materials. And not any, and is intended for the YouTube-channel of “Radio Liberty”, funded by the U.S. Congress.
The reason is the lack of Google moderators, who are well aware of the Belarusian language in order not to miss the paid promotion of fakes and “chatspike”, that is, materials that incite hatred against certain groups — women, Muslims, LGBT and so on.
In addition to Belarusian, advertising Department, we don’t support the Tatar, Bashkir, Kirghiz, Tajik and other languages of the peoples of the former USSR.
“Russian cultural imperialism continues, now with corporate support,” said specialist global media and expressed hope that the situation will be resolved thanks to reposts. At the time of this writing there are less than 200 despite the fact that the Evening quite well-known in Belarus opposition activist national sense. In Ukraine, these people are called “response”, in Belarus itself “zmagarami” (literally “wrestlers”).
Despite the fact that the post was written in English and the English media this blatant injustice to linguistic minorities are not interested. No wonder: from the available users YouTube 44 languages, no Indian or African, but also of many Indian languages only Hindi, no Marathi, which is spoken by almost 90 million people or 70 million Bengali speakers.
As a result of how insidious Google promotes Russian cultural imperialism and humiliate Belarusians, written only in Belarusian and Russian media, the rest is just uninteresting.
By the way, the number of Russian most resent Tatar publications (in Russian, of course).
Meanwhile, anyone who does not hurt Russophobia and other forms of xenophobia, it is obvious that the objectives of the company Google is not a struggle against Russian imperialism, nor the culture of “small Nations”.
Task Google, like any other commercial company, to make money for their shareholders. It has long been observed: as soon as the business ceases to consider this main task, it crumbles in a few years.
The lack of Belarusian or Tatar to the list of languages supported by Google ads, this is not a “diminution of cultural significance”. It is a sober calculation of the marketers and analysts. The list is rather small languages of the Baltic peoples, who often know well Russian, but regularly use their native language when placing the rollers. But there are no languages more numerous Slavic or Turkic peoples, because, as noted by one commentator, the evening, for three videos a year, no one will hire a moderator with relevant language skills.
The main problem of “fighters against Russian cultural imperialism”, but in fact banal Russophobes like františek parties is the certainty that their sacred struggle have to pay someone else.
Ideally Russia, but if this is not possible, the United States, represented by its public institutions or even private companies like Google or Apple.
But state institutions in the United States struggle with the “Russian cultural imperialism” care very indirectly, only in the case that it weakens the political regime in Russia and Moscow’s influence on the neighbors. And versed in the post-Soviet space the people in the American propaganda structures are not very many, but still there have long been advised not to support broadcasting in local languages, and to conduct propaganda for the Russian, who know almost all the people of Russia and continue to understand in Central Asia, the Baltic States and some places in Eastern Europe.
In the world’s history has so far recorded only for the case when a significant number of people began to speak in a language that they initially did not know, is the creation of the state of Israel and the revival of Hebrew. But among the Jews this was a crucial motive.
In all other cases, attempts to impose “politically correct” language in defiance of the language of live communication has failed. And this rule works both ways: not managed to win most of the local languages of the European empires, but failed to get the majority of Irish people speak Gaelic, the majority of Ukrainians — Ukrainian, Belarusians — Belarusian- and so on. And if the Ukrainian and the Belarusian state — less than 30 years, the Irish will soon be a hundred. And still the vast majority leans to the “Imperial” English.
Sergei Dovlatov was comparing talent with a lust hard to hide, even harder to simulate. Same with the language issue.
If the language is alive — it can not hide, can not hide and will not forget. If the “language revival” caused solely by political motives and don’t need anyone but a dozen fighters Russophobes, the more likely it is similar to the simulation of lust and produces the same impression of disgust, as an attempt to force Google to deal with the “Russian cultural imperialism”.
In this whole situation is hard to miss the “irony of fate”. Censorship of “chatspike”, reflected in the fact that Facebook ban for the word “crest”, was formulated and introduced in the West. The West as the forces contributed to the national movements to the denial of Russia and the Russian language. The same Evening, we will remind, works on “Radio Liberty”, and to bet on cultural nationalism after 1991 Ukraine and Belarus recommended by American advisers.
Now these pieces of information policy came into sharp conflict with each other — so let each other and devour.
