Netvibes on iPhone

March 4, 2007 on 10:15 pm | In Soft |

Tariq Krim (Netvibes founder) has announced on a French interview that a Netvibes widget might be available on the iPhone when it will be available. It is possible because Netvibes has build a Universal Widget API that enable a Netvibes module to be available on Apple Dashboard.

  1. I highly doubt it - The iPhone will initially be closed to all outside developers - even widget developers. Just because netvibes can make their widgets available in Apple’s Dashboard doesn’t mean those widgets will run on the iPhone.

  2. Good point, but I doubt as well that Apple will close its iPhone to all the widgets outside its own set. If they do so, they will face a new problem with their users, because iPhone users will want to have other widgets than the Apple ones.

  3. Maybe that will offer the opening of increased revenue. Apple could charge them a set fee for them making it compatible. Plus it would help get the word out to the market for the lower widget makers.
