After being the partner of Apple in France, Orange will sell the iPhone later this year in UK.
That’s very good news for customers, who were quite disappointed about the upgrade from iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS for existing customers with O2.
The competition on prices could finally start!!!

The mobile phone company O2 in United Kingdom is not treating its best customers, the iPhone 3G already owners like it should. The cut the story short, if you want an iPhone 3GS, it’s around £440!!!
If somebody from O2 is reading this, believe me, you will have a lot of angry customers who took the iPhone 3G 1 year ago for free after an upgrade from the iPhone 2G, and usually with an 18 months contract. So for existing O2 clients, it costs a fortune to get the beloved mobile device.

A rumor coming from Engadget has appeared today about a 16Gb iPhone in O2 stores around 1.30 pm this afternoon. Interesting that the device comes first in UK before the US. I doubt it, but we will see in 2 hours…

According to the Financial Times, O2 didn’t hit its target of selling 200,000 iPhones in the first 2 months. Experts are expecting a price cut soon in the UK market. I think we will see that price cut only when a new iPhone will be released. O2 is already happy with the iPhone launch because 190,000 iPhones sold means around 90,000 new O2 customers who were with other mobile providers. So it’s definitely a big win for O2 in the current saturate market where the only way to gain customers is to “steal” them from competitors.
Also it provides to O2 new contract customers, because the iPhone comes only with a contract, so it’s a guaranteed revenue for at least 18 months.

2/3 of the iPhone buyers in UK are new customers for O2, according to TimesOnline. Currently we haven’t real figures on the numbers of sales since the launch on Friday, but it’s sound to be a good deal for O2 so far.

According to UK Daily Telegraph, O2 will virtually allow iPhone users to have unlimited data allowance with their iPhone. Of course it’s not really unlimited, and it will be under a limit of a “fair usage”. This annoucement has been made by O2 UK chief executive Matthew Key:
