In this article we will discuss the situation with communication and mobile operators in one of the countries of Central Asia in Tajikistan.
It is worth noting that until 2010, this country was the leader in the region for introduction of new telecommunication technologies. So, in 2005 she held the commercial launch of 3G, NGN, telephony, and various online services. In 2009 was introduced the technology of Fiber-To-The-Building (FTTB), which provide access to high speed Internet over fiber optic cable.

Mobile communication is now a luxury.
The country has 4 mobile operator GSM: Babilon-Mobile, MegaFon Tajikistan, TCell (TeliaSonera’s representative office in Tajikistan) and Beeline. Long distance no roaming. For “symbolic” fee of $ 1 you can connect unlimited calls within the network. Internet packages start from 3.5 $ per 1 GB traffic in 3G/4G network. The prices for unlimited Internet from 21 to 50 USD, depending on the restrictions in traffic and speed.
Tariff plans without monthly fee no, the cheapest for $ 2 per month provides 100 minutes in the Republic and 300 MB Internet. Also the state structure of Tajikistan demanded that telecommunications companies from 1 July 2015 to introduce a monthly fee for use of the room in the amount of 0.1 USD.
According to the portal “We Are Social” in January 2017, the number of active SIM cards exceeded the population of the country at 9%.
Recently, the authorities of the Republic proposed to set the price of SIM cardsthat currently are provided to the subscriber free of charge upon connection.
Initially they offered to establish the value of SIM cards in the area of 100 dollars, but later decided to reduce the cost to 26,5 USD. However, mobile operators will be forced to re-register all existing subscribers charging a payment for the SIM card. The companies fear this could become an annual requirement of the authorities that will lead to churn.
In addition to these laws, currently the project “Compulsory registration of IMEI-code of mobile phones” is under development and is undergoing domestic procedures.
The unified state registry will help the authorities to accelerate the process of identification by telephone and provide additional security services.
If you add up all of the above, in the current realities of the average bill for mobile phone use in the month will be 15.3 per US dollar.
For comparison, the average salary in Russia is 622,67 the U.S. dollar, and communication costs – to 6.67 USD.
For the residents of Tajikistan monthly communication costs amount to slightly more than 11% of the average wage. In Russia this ratio is equal to 1%. That’s why communication in Central Asia – a luxury available to every Russian.
