What to expect from mobile phones “claim” for more than 20 thousand rubles — more or less clear. On the budget front, “10 thousand” without change, too, and no surprises. But the hottest competition in the Russian retail takes place among boundary between the public sector and middle classes smartphones cost 14-16 thousand rubles. The first in this field in 2019 came Huawei P Smart (2019) and Oppo AX7. Here and check out what to expect from the newest models at this price.
Appearance and design
No matter how many were offended and outraged readers who nod to “anti-national” prices of smartphones in the tests, in reality, smartphones cost 15 thousand rubles — the most desirable. So much so that a clone of last year’s Huawei P Smart, Honor 9 Lite, spent some time in the status of the most sold in Russia smartphones. Most modern Samsung J-series, the cheapest Sony (L2) and the hugely popular Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, as you know, also “dancing” in the same price category. “Prebudgetary” and “under-middle class”, whatever you call it. But that maximum competition leads to the fact that at this price you get not only good performance, but even the most modern design. Just look at our current couple of the test subjects.
It’s funny how IOS copied the unibrow Chinese manufacturers still have started to reduce it to those dimensions, when it really stops way. If the cut is almost the full width of the screen users are accustomed to, then this small drop with the front camera — and certainly no claims to be. Nice to see how prettier a budget mobile phones with stagnant Apple!
The back of the back of smartphones, as usual in modern Chinese, glossy-glass-iridescent, but the first looks nicer compare Oppo AX7. Because the glass in it — not an easy track, collecting fingerprints, like Huawei, with extra pattern under the first layer of glass. Now, if it was patterned surface itself, not the 3D-texture — in this option, and keep the smartphone would be more convenient. But, probably, such “innovations” producers are saving for the next generations of smartphones. Or buyers.
The number of buttons and connectors of mobile phone both are equal — there is also a 3.5 mm for headphones (and even FM radio left for the reactionaries!) and micro-USB for charging and data transfer. USB-C has decided not to have competitors waiting for Xiaomi to “kick” them out of the new Redmi Note, and only then implement something behind. Last year, Redmi Note 5 had to change Huawei Kirin 659 two years of exposure to the more powerful Kirin 710, in 2019 the recently released Redmi Note 7 soon will force other manufacturers to “invent” USB-C and fast charging Qualcomm Quick Charge in 4 affordable models.
But USB-C — this is nitpicking an improvement. And that is why Huawei skimped on the full slot and forces you to choose between second SIM and memory card — burning question. Usually just cheap Huawei and Honory set the tone in such matters (Honor 8X, for example). Well, Oppo — well done. In this matter I am completely on your side.
And for Huawei Smart P there are still a few questions about configuration. Here comes the Oppo AX7 silicone case included (it has become almost standard for Chinese), and by P Smart — no. Film on the screen of the smartphone Oppo is also glued from the factory, but Huawei Smart P… well, it’s kind of funny — the film itself is included in the kit, but gluing it is proposed. Is it hard to have mercy and stick it immediately to the inexperienced in this procedure, the buyers suffer?
On the other hand, in the box with the Huawei P Smart features and headphones. At least some, but there is, in contrast to the AX7.
Screen and interface
The main difference between both models is the resolution. From Oppo AX7 HD resolution, while Huawei Smart P — Full-HD. And Yes, the difference is on a diagonal very prominent.
On the other hand, the Oppo display is much brighter AX7 — summer in Sunny weather tell the Chinese thanks for the good readability of the display. However, Huawei Smart P 2019 in this sense, too bad. Another thing that P Smart constantly “cheating” and turns up and down the contrast to make the display seem better than it is. “Syaomovsky” MIUI this intense activity can be disabled in the options screen in MIUI and Huawei, according to the old-IOS tradition, this choice is not offered. “Floating” the luminosity of the screen is not so visible to the eye, as in the case of Asus Zenfone M2 Max Pro, but the colorimeter records. Oppo AX7 in this sense is more honest.
Another important point — P Smart works on modern Android 9, while the Oppo is still used only Android 8.1. However, both models still use proprietary interfaces for their manufacturers: Color OS from Oppo and Huawei’s EMUI. “Bells and whistles” in Huawei a little more, design a matter of taste.
Performance and autonomy
As in the case of screen, the difference in hardware between Huawei and Oppo Smart P AX7 is simply huge, and this time Oppo praise not for that.
Oppo AX7 works on the weak Snapdragon 450 — this processor (the degraded version of the famous budget Xiaomi, Meizu and ASUS Snapdragon 625) set to the cheapest OCTA core smartphones 2017-2018 for Example, 5 or Xiaomi Redmi Honor 7C Pro cost 8-10 thousand rubles. Oppo somehow imagined this processor is worthy of a much more expensive model.
How is it worse? In a nutshell — almost everything. In slower applications, worse games, worse speed Wi-Fi (802.11 n only 2.4 GHz vs. 802.11 ac and 2.4/5 GHz Huawei), on modern process technology (below the threshold of heat and better efficiency in terms of performance). Even RAM Snapdragon 450 older and slow — LPDDR3. By the way, many people are unaware that memory in smartphones can also be different, the importance is not only the quantity but also the memory type and frequency — has. So, although Huawei P Smart RAM 1 GB less, it is more new and fast.
Even the old Kirin 655 (remember that? Out in 2016, in Honor 6X) would “give a light” to our Oppo and compared to Kirin 710 there is a feeling that we have here in article two models for about the same price, and the public sector the low level and full member of the middle class. A “control head” — in Huawei Smart P 2019 there is a module NFC, which is not in the Oppo AX7. Come on, Oppo — Xiaomi, Meizu and Alcatel also does not offer this function in smartphones to 20 thousand, and they absolutely do not care what you prefer to pay with a smartphone than to go for credit card.
But the Oppo played with a vengeance in autonomy. Low-power and efficient processor and big battery by themselves are good for endurance. And in games, as you can see, “unclear” HD display (not Full HD as Huawei) with this hardware allows you to “chopped” in shooters, racing and other pleasures for many, many hours in a row. There would be no happiness, Yes the misfortune has helped — while saving on hardware Oppo has created one of the longest-running smartphones of recent years.
Both of our smartphone still closer to the public sector, but because of fine photos can be expected. On average, the quality of hardware (optics, pixel size, etc.) from smartphones is about the same, model-specific sensors manufacturers are not called (to avoid disgrace), and the difference is found in the software algorithms. And here one can really feel completely different approach.
Oppo AX7 knows he’s middling at best, and not trying to seem better than he is. You don’t want a level quality Xiaomi Mi8/Huawei P20, right? For its price range pictures good, although in the official retail cheaper Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, for example, can shoot a little better. Honor or 8C, but it is more expensive, so with him and demand another.
But Huawei P Smart is clearly aiming for a more “adult” category, it is possible to justify the difference in price with Honor 8C. In the end, what enabled AI that is off we get something unintelligible. At least at night pictures — daytime more or less normal (there AI sometimes slightly improves the image, sometimes it worsens and sometimes nothing does). But that night… it is even Difficult to say unequivocally in what mode, the phone takes the worst.
In normal mode, and with AI enabled, the difference is almost not felt, but here and there somehow there is an effect of a diorama like automatically turns tilt-shift effects (the clear part of the frame and “soap” around it). Even if the subject is far from us, still the background is unnaturally blurred. And it’s not artistic effect according to the author, as in the case of bokeh on portraits, this is “blur” — Huawei sculpts “daub” regardless of your desires.
In a special “night” mode Huawei P Smart makes several shots with different exposures and then combines them. The same approach in the more expensive Huawei/Honor allows you to achieve really great results, and seemingly here to portray something similar- after all, it’s a software “feature”. However, no images are obtained with some terrifying sharpness (or rather the blur, but in an attempt to fix it), like the muddy photo was sent to the Chinese office of Huawei and said, “Hey, Doris missing parts!”. But there is no blurring.
However, all the above concerns only the back camera. The Oppo frontally have long been some of the best on the market. And while Huawei Smart P seeks to blur the background (includes portrait mode, even if not asked), not coping with the sharpness of the portrait, Oppo AX7 turn out decent selfies even at night.
As for movies — there Huawei Smart P already looks much better than the competition, not least thanks to the support 60 frames per second. But stabilization noticeably lacks both smartphones to shoot video with legible hand can only stand in place, and it is advisable to move carefully and slowly to breathe.
Asus Zenfone Max M2
Something between Oppo and Huawei AX7 P Smart is a relatively new model Asus Zenfone M2 Max. It is “just” M2 because Pro-version is 18 thousand rubles worth, and this is completely different money. Asus (at less cost) will be a better camera, and the screen almost like Oppo AX7. Speed and autonomy are just in the middle between the results of the heroes of today’s test. Well, from the NFC will have to give. In General, the Zenfone Max M2 — alternative for those who are concerned about the quality of the back camera (frontalka still have Oppo AX7 better).
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro
If you do more of Mila speed Huawei P Smart, but need the autonomy is better, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro — your choice. Yes, the smartphone is elderly and is about to disappear from retail, but still good. Full-HD screen, better camera, price is almost the same (but can be found cheaper). Except that the module NFC and the Android version is still 8.1.
The exact price is still unknown Oppo AX7 (smartphone will start selling on January 23-24), but we expect it in the area of 14-16 thousand rubles. It is highly unlikely that it will be cheaper. In this scenario, Huawei Smart P 14 770 rubles looks much more sensible purchase — it has Full-HD screen, much higher performance and has NFC module. All of these settings Oppo AX7 to cover virtually nothing — except that a much larger range of brightness of the HD screen, well, their “signature” strengths — selfie camera and battery life. In General, the smartphone from Oppo is good, including the AX7, but with this sale price will be ridiculous. But the buyers have the sense to wait for A7X “spin” in the sales and fall in the price of 10-12 thousand rubles — at that price (take into consideration that Xiaomi Redmi 5 and 5 Plus/Meizu M6 Note will soon disappear from the market, the Redmi 6 stupid, and most have nowhere to go) it would be a very good smartphone for all parameters.
