A resident of St. Petersburg Eduard Nikitin is accused of extremism for publishing a political joke in a social network “Vkontakte”. Eduard Nikitin is accused of extremism for publishing a joke and a caricature image in “Vkontakte” in 2015. User brought the case under article 282 of the Russian Criminal code (incitement of hatred or enmity, and humiliation of human dignity), which provides for a maximum sentence of up to five years of imprisonment.
During the investigation Nikitin was held for psychiatric examination by results of which the prosecution began to demand forced treatment of the accused. Nikitin is the invalid of the second group.
Currently not installed, what kind of joke has attracted the attention of law enforcement. The lawyer Nikitin has specified that one of the characters in the anecdote doubts that after the elections, positive changes. Also according to the lawyer, who has studied the anecdote, the expert said that “if you doubt the institution of elections, you are already an extremist.”
The first hearing in a major case will take place on 20 August.
