Legislators against Apple
The state Duma adopted in the first reading a bill on the mandatory installation of domestic software for the “technically difficult goods” (smartphones, PC, smart TV) before selling. The measure is intended to encourage the development of domestic software and as a result of Russian IT companies. Probably, after adoption of law manufacturers will be required to provide your device with the service “Yandex” and Mail.Ru Group, application of social network “Vkontakte”, branded BY Telecom service providers. The number of the original software (from Google, Apple and Microsoft), the bill is not limited, but the FAS, which was originally owned by the idea, felt it necessary to introduce competition between foreign and domestic developments. The experts of the IT industry believe that the new law may entail serious consequences, up to the withdrawal of large companies from Russia. So, Apple has never installed a third-party PR Imogene for local markets (including China) and will not make an exception for the Russian Federation. And although, according to the company “Svyaznoy Evroset” in 2018, Russia had sold almost 4 million iPhones worth 162 billion, our market is not a key. In the current version of the bill it is expected to come into force in July 2020.
Laser — a boon to an attacker
Scientists from the University of Michigan (USA) demonstrated the development, which allows you to control smart devices with microphones (speakers, Home Google and Amazon’s Alexa, smartphones) with a laser. Tuned to a specific frequency beam, which can be accessed using freely sold laser pointers is directed to the microphone and vibrates the diaphragm, which is perceived by the device as a voice command. In the demonstration the developers show that in this way the attackers can force the assistant to Google to open the garage door, the front door of the house or start the car. Scientists reported that develop protection against these threats in conjunction with the American manufacturers of smart devices — Google, Amazon and Apple. In any case, for hacking you need not only a pointer and direct visibility from the street (closed curtains and blinds to prevent intruders), but also the equipment cost about $500.
