The reasons are the same — the VAT increase and “Spring package”.
Experts Content Review conducted a study and found out that in 2018 the average price of 1 GB of mobile data traffic in Russia has decreased by 15%. Due to this, Russia has managed to stay in the top ten countries with the most affordable mobile Internet. However, experts fear that in 2019, the operators of the “big four” will increase the cost of mobile Internet.
According to the study, the average price of 1 GB of mobile data traffic in Russia in 2018 fell to 55.5 RUB Decrease compared to the previous year was 15%, with a positive impact on the consumption of traffic by subscribers of operators. In particular, the operators “Beeline”, “MegaFon” and Tele2 has reported the increase in total mobile traffic to 25-38%.
But in 2019 the cost of mobile traffic in Russia may increase, experts stress. This will affect the increase in the VAT rate from 18% to 20%, as well as the need for operators to spend money to meet the requirements of the “law of Spring”. How much stronger will be the growth while analysts can not predict — it will depend on the decisions of the operators.
We will remind that earlier “Beeline”, “MegaFon” and Tele2 announced their plans to increase the cost of cellular communications since the beginning of 2019. It is possible that the increase in prices for mobile Internet will be included in the planned increase, which, according to representatives of operators is associated with an increase in the VAT rate in Russia from 1 January 2019.
