Today it became known that the Federal Antimonopoly service of Russia initiated proceedings against Apple for violations of the Law on protection of competition. A complaint to the office filed by the representatives of Kaspersky Lab.
Representatives of the Russian company specializing in the development of systems of protection against computer viruses and spam, arguing that Apple intends’t miss the program Kaspersky Safe Kids (KSK) in the App Store as the latter in terms of functionality overlap with the function of “Screen time”. To host the app in Apple store, developers had to “cut back a significant part of the functionality”.
The Federal Antimonopoly service examined the case and found signs of “abuse of a dominant position on the market of iOS devices”. The meeting, which will be a decision about what amount should fine Apple, will be held in the first half of September.
It is worth mentioning that last year Apple removed from the App Store or will have limited functionality 11 of 17 popular apps for parental control. Software developers appealed to the Antimonopoly bodies. The complaint was filed in the regional office, but also to the European Commission.
