One of the features of the new macOS Catalina was the feature called Sidecar. It allows you to use the Apple tablet as an additional screen and bring him some tools. However, this option is not on all computers. At least officially it is not supported by all compatible with macOS 10.15 “poppies”.
According to reports, the Sidecar feature is available in:
- MacBook 2016 or later;
- MacBook Air the 2018 and later;
- MacBook Pro 2016 or later;
- iMac 2015 or later;
- Mac mini 2018 and later;
- Mac Pro 2019 and later.
However, users of popular networking site Reddit found a method that allows to bypass this limitation and activate the Sidecar on older Apple computers. To do this, open a terminal and enter the command:
defaults write com.apple.sidecar.display AllowAllDevices -bool true defaults write com.apple.sidecar.display hasShownPref -bool true; open /System/Library/PreferencePanes/Sidecar.prefPane
Judging by the reviews, to team work, you need to perform a clean installation of macOS, Catalina (not on top of macOS 10.14). In addition, users report that the picture quality on the iPad will be worse than if the tablet was connected to the Mac with native support for a new feature.
It is believed that this method of bypass is a fault with the first test version of Mac OS 10.15 and in the future, the cupertinos will fix this bug.
