The decision to move the production made on the background of rising prices for labor in China and further pressure from duties due to an ongoing trade war between the US and China.
The American Internet giant intends ultimately to extend beyond China, the production of most equipment designed for the American market, including smartphones and smart Pixel speakers Google Home, sources told the Nikkei.
This year the company plans to deliver about 8-10 million smartphones, which is twice more than a year ago. Production lines in Vietnam will be a key element in the growth of Google in the smartphone market.
Google will take part in the production of smartphones Pixel 3A Vietnam before the end of this year, reports Nikkei, citing sources. With regard to the intellectual speakers, part of the production will probably be moved to Thailand, but the development of new products and initial production of its line of equipment will continue to be in China.
Protracted trade war between the two largest economies continues to create uncertainty for companies and investors.
As reported “Vesti. Economy”, more than 50 companies, including Apple and Nintendo have announced or are considering plans to move production from China to avoid U.S. duties.
Vietnam is often mentioned as one of the biggest beneficiaries in the trade war between Washington and Beijing.
