Batteries for smartphones can’t live forever, but some user habits significantly shorten their service life, e.g. night charging. At the same time, manufacturers of gadgets do not give special recommendations for this reason. Why Apple and Google are hiding important information from users and how to charge your smartphone — in the material “Газеты.Ru”.
Experts in the field of mobile technology have long warned that in reducing the lifespan of the batteries inside of smartphones to blame the users themselves, or rather some of their habits. In particular, they talk about the dangers of the night charging, when the device is charging half the night, and the second half keeps the charge at 100%.
If you repeat this action regularly, lithium-ion batteries will serve the user much less, says Dominik Schulte, managing Director of the German company BatterieIngenieure, specializing in technologies for batteries.
The fact that lithium-ion batteries, which are widely prevalent in modern consumer electronics wear out over time and have a limited time of service. Thus, over time, they become less to hold a charge.
However, the leading smartphone manufacturers do not consider this a problem and does not warn users that excessive charging harm the device, said Schulte.
He asked several vendors about what they think about the night charging and maintaining 100% charge for a long time. According to the researcher, most of the producers asked him to read about it yourself on the official websites in the respective sections. It turned out that none of them have given this subject any attention — neither in the sites nor in the instructions to the gadgets not mention that night-time charging harms the device.
On the Apple website mentioned night charging, but its benefit or harm is not marked.
But a Google spokesman called the fear of the night charging “old-fashioned phobia”. According to product Manager of Roland Ho, which refers to Business Insider, the story about the harmfulness of too frequent recharging are “obsolete”, since modern technology is present in devices that optimize battery power on your own.
However, and Dominik Schulte, and smartphone makers agree that if the smartphone for a long time lying without use, the battery should hold a charge within a certain range, preferably between 30% and 50%.
It is believed that under such conditions the battery wears out much slower. This is stated on the Samsung website and on the Apple website vendors are recommended to keep unused devices charged half.
Thus, it indirectly confirms the idea mentioned earlier — the abandonment of batteries charged to 100% for a long time in the electrical network may adversely affect their durability.
Similar recommendations gives and the site Battery University, which released a statement on the charging of lithium-ion batteries. It is reported that at discharge to zero and charge to 100%, so the battery can withstand 500 charge cycles, but the discharge-charging by 50% the lifetime will increase up to a thousand cycles.
Experts also suggest not to charge the gadget to its maximum, and feed it slowly during the day. In addition, it is not recommended to charge your phone in extreme temperatures — both too high and too low.
Why tips gadget consumers give third-party experts, and manufacturers of smartphones pretend it does not concern them?
Perhaps the kind of conspiracy — after all, rapidly discharge, the gadget is becoming one of the main reasons for buying a new that has a positive impact on the company’s sales.
At the end of 2017, revealed a major scandal at Apple — she had to admit that for a couple years, she deliberately slow down the old iPhone models. Processor performance is intentionally reduced by code in iOS that have led to a “braking” device. Developer John Poole, who was one of the first to notice the non-standard metrics, indicated in their study that slow iPhone often forces users to buy a new gadget instead of having to change the battery. As a result, the scrap is sent to the device whose potential has not yet been exhausted.
If you remember this is unprecedented for Apple case, for which the company had to apologize publicly for the first time in history, the version of conspiracy with the batteries does not seem too implausible.
“Peculiarities of the production of batteries and their further work in the phone as that of any standard recommendations can only dream of. Besides it is hard on the battery life can affect the hardware or phone”, — told “Газете.Ru” the head of the technical support group Redmadrobot Mikhail Semenov.
According to him, research and practice of work with mobile devices show that there is no exact answer to the question “is it right to charge the phone all night?”. However, it is known that the total discharge of the phone affects the battery life.
