31 July 2018 a report on the results for the third fiscal quarter presented not only Apple, but also Huawei. During this time the company managed to sell 342 million smartphones, according to consulting company IDC.
Experts IDC noted that the drop in sales in this quarter is typical for the industry of mobile electronics. However, it is not the strong revenue decline in the history of the industry.
The main feature of the last reporting period is that Huawei has overtaken Apple in the number of smartphones sold and has become the second largest producer in the world. She managed to ship 54,2 million units, which is 15.8% more than in the same period last year.
For comparison, Apple sold a total of 41.3 million gadgets, which increased the market share of the Corporation from 11.8% in the previous quarter to 12.1%.
Apple is a leader in the number of smartphones sold in the second quarter of 2010. The company Tim cook has always been first or second in the ranking. The growth of demand for the phones is broke this tradition, but analysts believe that this balance of power will not last long.
“The continued growth of Huawei’s impressive, if not more, as his ability to get to the markets, where, until recently, the brand was largely unknown.
It is worth noting that Apple has returned to first place in each of the last two quarters after the release of new products. Therefore, it is likely that we will see continued shifts in the ranking of the leading companies in 2018 and subsequent years,” said Ryan Reith, Vice President of programs IDC Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers.
The fight Apple and Huawei for market leadership is not something unexpected. Previously Huawei stated that he is going to overtake Apple in number of smartphones sold by 2019. In 2017, Apple managed to sell 215 million iPhones, and Huawei — 153 million handsets.
