Because of the sanctions of the West.
Russia may be disconnected from the global Internet because of the sanctions from the West, said Chairman of the State Duma Committee on information policy, information technologies and communications Leonid Levin. According to him, Russia off from the global network is one of the possible scenarios of escalation in the current tensions in the world.
Levin stated that such a risk exists because of the regular statements of the West about the need to increase pressure on Russia. The actions of the Western powers forced the Russian officials to consider additional protection of the sovereignty of the country in cyberspace.
The state Duma is actively preparing for a possible shutdown of Russia from the global Internet. Officials are developing a bill that will allow Russians to use the major Internet resources even after blocking access to the global Internet. We are talking about a special system of traffic routing, which will provide free access to important Internet resources regardless of the sanctions.
