ANKARA, 9 Jan — RIA Novosti. The Turkish journalist Pelin Uncer sentenced to 13 months in prison for publishing about the relationship of the sons of former Prime Minister Binali Yildirim of offshore holdings, the newspaper Cumhuriyet.
The international consortium of investigative journalism (ICIJ), funded, in particular, one of the funds of George Soros, together with a number of international media published in November 2017 materials on the activities of offshore companies in the world, mentioning 120 politicians, including the Prime Minister of Canada, members of the administration of U.S. President, Queen Elizabeth II, as well as Apple and Uber. In particular, they presented evidence that the sons of Yildirim associated with offshore holdings. According to the ICIJ, Ercan and Bulent Yildirim are the sole shareholders of two shipping companies registered in Malta. Uncer published in the opposition newspaper Cumhuriyet article, which referred to these materials.
Hunker was charged with “libel and insult” the former Prime Minister of Turkey. He was also fined 8660 Turkish liras (about $ 1600).
