New streaming service Peacock will be the first major free OTT platform in the U.S., parent company NBCUniversal has decided to make it available (with ads) for everyone, and not only, as originally intended, for subscribers of a telecommunications company Comcast.

Paid version without ads will also be available wishing — thus NBCUniversal plans to increase the coverage and make the most of advertising opportunities.

As for the other major streaming services, preparing to launch, they will be available free of charge only for certain categories of users. For example, Disney+ will be free for one year to American subscribers of wireless Internet from Verizon, and Apple TV+ free will be the default for buyers of new Apple devices.

In the starting directory, the Peacock will be about 15 thousand hours of content, including such popular series as “Parks and recreation”, “Merry company” and “the Office”; the service will start operating in 2021.

Earlier, the head of Comcast, Brian Roberts said that the company is developing a strategy for the fastest exit on profitability with minimal investment — it is obvious that the free model viewing ads seems to guide optimal.

Earlier, in September, during his speech at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference, Roberts said that Peacock will be free to U.S. subscribers of Comcast.
