PARIS, October 29 /PRIME/. The Minister of economic development of Russia Maxim Oreshkin has discussed a question of renewal of procedure of Russia’s accession to the Organization for economic cooperation and development (OECD) at a meeting with OECD Secretary General angel Gurria.
Negotiations on Russia’s accession to the OECD, after several years of work in this area has been frozen in 2014 amid the events in Ukraine.
Subsequently Russian officials and representatives of the organization stated that the negotiation process on Russia’s accession is closely linked to the sanctions, so negotiations are unlikely to resume until they are removed. Meanwhile, the cooperation between Russia and the OECD on the current agenda remains.
“We discussed the resumption (procedure — ed.) accession. While our colleagues from the OECD submitted a document with possible areas of potential cooperation, deepening cooperation,” said Oreshkin journalists on results of his visit to Paris.
He noted that the parties agreed to intensify work on a number of areas, including artificial intelligence, on taxation in the digital sphere, and the infrastructure.
“We are the topic of taxation in the digital realm of large companies was very discussed in detail, including during the negotiations with the French Minister (Finance and economy). France introduces such a tax,” said Oreshkin.
“You know that Russia is also stated in the policy documents — in the main directions of tax policy that we will move in the same direction. And here Mr. Gurria discussed how important it is to finish the agreement at the site of the OECD common approaches to this tax”, — the Minister added.
He explained that France imposes a 3 percent turnover tax on Google, Facebook, Amazon and Apple.
“Development of unified approaches on the basis of the OECD will facilitate the introduction of such taxes in other countries. Russia very carefully for this initiative is watching and it is going to fully participate,” — said Oreshkin.
