The situation is heating up.
Google’s search engine under the threat of blocking in Russia. The Deputy head of Roskomnadzor Vadim Subbotin said that if Google continues to ignore the demands of the Russian authorities on filtering, forbidden sites, then the Agency may amend the legislation to block the search engine.
Currently, the law only provides for administrative fines for ignoring the requirements of Roskomnadzor, not the lock. However, in an interview to “Interfax” Subbotin said that “if we (Roskomnadzor) will come to a dead end, then at the legislative level we have all opportunities in order to settle this question”.
According to Subbotina, it is about “child pornography, suicide, drugs, gambling, selling of alcohol, extremism and terrorism” and Roskomnadzor wants Google to filter such information. But the world’s largest search engine ignores the requirements of Roskomnadzor. Earlier Roskomnadzor has fined Google 500 thousand rubles for the fact that the search engine is not connected to a registry of banned sites, but had to do it last year.
It is noteworthy that Roskomnadzor has no rights to changes in legislation. The right of legislative initiative are the President, the Federation Council, state Duma, government, legislative bodies in the regions, the constitutional court and the Supreme court.
