Samsung announced the first memory card based on the standard UFS (Universal Flash Storage), more than three years ago. Then the South Korean manufacturer promised much better performance than regular microSD, but still make sure it has not been possible.

Quite unexpectedly UFS card was discovered at the international exhibition IFA 2019 in the prototype of the smartphone, Chinese manufacturer Hisense T91. The smartphone used card Samsung UFS of 1TB, which was confirmed by the test application AndroBench 5.

Sequential read data transfer rate amounted to more than 510 MB/s, while the write speed reached only 183 MB/sec. Speed of random read and write this card was 128 MB/s and 23 MB/sec, respectively.

As expected, the results are far superior to any traditional memory cards microSD. So a microSD card is used in another smartphone Hisense T91 showed speed for sequential reading of about 80 MB/s, while write — 30 MB/s.

It should be noted that as the hardware basis Hisense T91 used 8-core Snapdragon processor 845 from Qualcomm, and the smartphone is equipped with a card slot UFS.

Why Samsung UFS still not went on sale — is unknown. At the moment there is only one device available on the market and supports the new card — laptop Samsung Notebook 9 of the last generation, which has combined a microSD card slot and UFS cards. In smartphones the cards of the new standard are not yet supported.
