Moscow, January 25 — “Lead. Economy” Chinese smartphone market, strategically important for many manufacturers because of its scale, continues to decline, experts Strategy Analytics. Drop shipments of smartphones in China on 11% in the fourth quarter of 2018, which was the fifth straight decline.
In October-December, the Chinese market received about 108 million smartphones vs 121,3, the company informed. Submitted by the experts, the figures indicate a clear leadership of Huawei, while the position of Apple and Xiaomi in China are weakening. For all of last year in China came 408,5 million units, 11% less than in 2017.
Executive Director of Strategy Analytics Neil Mawston noted that Huawei has put in the country of 30 million smartphones, taking into account of which its market share reached a record 28%. The shipment of Huawei devices increased by 23% yoy. The success of the company contributed to a strong product range, the prestige of the brand and developed distribution channels. For the whole of 2018 Huawei has put on the domestic market of over 105 million smartphones, or nearly 26% of the total.
Oppo has maintained the second place in the ranking, while quarterly shipment it decreased by 2%, to $ 22.4 million. The annual result of the Oppo for their domestic market amounted to 82.8 million devices.
Vivo is located on the third line, but was close to beat Oppo. In October-December, the company managed to increase supplies by 8%, to 22.2 million units, and for the whole year Vivo put in the PRC of 79.3 million units. With these results of its annual and quarterly contribution to the supply was equal to 20.6% and 19.4%, compared with 20.8% and 20.3% from the nearest rival Oppo.
In fourth place is Apple, which has reduced the supply of iPhone into the Chinese market by 22% compared to last year. According to Strategy Analytics, kupertinovtsy just shipped 10 million devices in the fourth quarter of 2018. For the whole of 2018, the Chinese market received 34,2 million smartphones Apple vs 36.7 million in 2017. Analysts pointed out that the negative dynamics of the iPhone in China was observed in 8 of the last 12 quarters.
Analysts believe that the demand for iPhone is due to the high cost of the device. Also the company itself is unable to work confidently in the market of China on the background of a trade war between the US and China.
Xiaomi closed the ranking with a quarterly indicator of the supply of 10 million smartphones, the relevant market share of 9.3%. The annual volume of shipments of smartphones Xiaomi was at 50 million units (share of 12.2%). Experts noted that the company has shifted lower rating because of competitive pressures, Huawei and Vivo, as well as the accumulation of excess in the distribution channels.
