The Federal Antimonopoly service has declared that does not support the proposal to limit distribution in Russia eSIM (SIM card embedded in a smartphone or other electronic device at the stage of production). The convenience of this option is that the user no longer need to contact the offices of mobile operators — all the possibilities for using the rooms are already integrated in the smartphone.
The Agency is actively interested in eSIM in Russia. “To limit the number of market participants FAS does not intend — it would be contrary to the interests of competition”, — quotes RBC of the head of Department of regulation of communications and information technologies of the FAS Elena Zaev.
Earlier, a proposal to introduce restrictions on device manufacturers was made head of Tele2 Sergey Emdin. According to him, operators are afraid that in case of distribution of eSIM in Russia smartphone manufacturers begin to launch their own mobile operators, it can be especially dangerous in the case of companies like Apple and Huawei, as there is a risk of redistribution of the market.
Elena zaeva added that the Telecom operator can only be a Russian legal entity. Accordingly, for entering the Russian market of foreign manufacturers will have to register a company here.
