The launch of 5G networks in Russia will be delayed until 2022, RBC reports referring to the statement of the Supervisory Board of ANO “the Digital economy”. The decision to postpone is due to the projected low demand for technology, the loss of which will bring only losses.
According to the materials of the meeting of the ANO, a road map for the development of 5G networks in Russia will be adopted in the first quarter of 2019. Then the Advisory Council will adopt a list of frequencies on which to operate networks of the fifth generation, and then begin active testing of the technology, and the construction of networks is planned to begin before the end of 2021.
When Russia will launch a 5G
Since the deployment of the fifth generation networks will require operators hefty financial injections in the first place, the technology will work in the cities. It was there, believe industry experts, due to the high concentration of residents, the introduction of 5G will be more than justified.
Operators generally responded positively to the news of the postponement of the launch of fifth generation networks. For example, “MegaFon” and MTS have announced plans to run pilot projects using 5G in 2019, hoping for 3-4 years to work through more technical issues associated with deploying infrastructure.
