“We are talking about large-scale trial in the market of digital services and the study of the causes of the dominance of large technology platforms. So, Google controls 94% of search in cell phones, Facebook has 2.7 billion users and is the largest social network in the world. It is a monopoly,” stated the Congressman.
He questioned the thesis about total freedom and independence of consumers of this type of almost free services. “The truth is that the collection of personal data of users is not so pure and is to the detriment of the privacy of the people. There is a lot of information about the misuse of such data, to eliminate competition and unfair behavior to the detriment of innovation and entrepreneurship”, — said Siciliy.
From his point of view, the market for digital services “not functioning well”. The objective of the investigation is to obtain the most complete picture about the flaws of this segment of the economy, to eliminate the “excesses of monopolization” and “to provide consumers access to the wide range of the most advanced products,” concluded the Congressman.
The US President Donald trump has repeatedly raised allegations that the administration of the largest social networks Facebook and Twitter, and search engines such as Google to suppress the voices of conservative audiences and hiding positive information and news about the situation in the United States during his presidency. He also pointed to the alleged manipulation of search results of news about him.
