WASHINGTON, Dec 2 /PRIME/. The U.S. Treasury Department has not commented on the situation around the symbol of the Russian Crimea in application “Weather” from Apple and the possibility of imposing sanctions against the company in this regard.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Embassy in the USA reported that the U.S. Treasury will determine whether actions of the company under the existing sanctions of Washington.
“The Ministry of Finance does not comment on the investigation, including confirmation of their presence,” — told RIA Novosti the representative office.
The head of the Duma Committee on security and combating corruption Vasily Piskarev following the meeting with the representative of Apple in Russia Darya Ermolina said that the company has fixed a bug in the app “Weather”: now the Crimea in the service is shown as the territory of the Russian Federation. To do this, the application did not indicate the nationality of the Crimean cities. After that, the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States called on Apple to fix the designation of Crimea as part of Russian territory in the applications.
Crimea became a Russian region after held there in March 2014 referendum in which an overwhelming majority of voters of the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol voted for entry into structure of Russia. Crimean authorities held a referendum after a coup in Ukraine in February 2014. Ukraine still considers Crimea its but temporarily occupied territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the inhabitants of Crimea democratically in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter voted for reunification with Russia. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Crimea issue “is closed permanently.”
