WASHINGTON, may 2. /TASS/. The President of the United States Donald trump and one of the richest men in Taiwan Terry GOU (Guo Taimin) on Wednesday during a meeting at the White house did not discuss the possibility of supporting participation of the businessman in the elections of the head of administration of the island in 2020, from the opposition Kuomintang party.
“President trump has not discussed with Terry GOU, the ability to support his campaign, they are just good friends”, — reads the statement of the press Secretary the White house Sarah Sanders, released on Thursday.
68-year-old Terry GOU is the founder of high-tech giant Hon Hai Precision Industry (better known under the brand Foxconn). Being the world’s largest contract manufacturer of electronics, this Corporation fulfills orders including Apple (“Apple”), and intends to expand its presence in the U.S. market.
In the event of his election victory, Terry GOU expressed his intention to visit Washington, despite the objection of Beijing against official contacts between the US and Taiwan. At the same time he promised to make efforts for the peaceful development of relations with China, which are situated in the largest factories of Foxconn.
Taiwan since 1949, is run by its own administration and, according to the official position of the PRC that is supported by most countries, including Russia, is one of the provinces of China. At the 1992 meeting in Hong Kong between Beijing and Taipei, a consensus was reached, according to which recognized the existence of only one Chinese state in the world. The ruling in Taiwan’s Democratic progressive party led by Tsai Inven refused to recognize the principle of “one China” and turned the course of the previous government — the Kuomintang — a gradual rapprochement with China. Following elections of the head of administration of the island will be held on 11 January 2020.
