If we consider 2017 as the year of artificial intelligence, the 2019 year will go down in history as the year of 5G. On 6 June, the Ministry of industry and information technology of China issued the first certificate market the product using 5G communication, this means that the technology began to officially apply.

On 27 June in Shanghai was held an exhibition of the mobile industry “mobile world Congress” (Mobile World Congress). On the “China mobile” (China Mobile) held a forum “Using 5G in education — mind illuminates the future”, during which were published White paper on 5G “Smart campus”, which was about six applications of smart education and ways of solving existing problems. Including affected the themes of learning and teaching, management, education, life on campus, campus beauty, education evaluation, use 5G. The document referred to widespread construction of smart campuses with the use of information technologies such as 5G, cloud programming, big data, and artificial intelligence. All these measures should mark the beginning of the use of 5G technologies in education.

5G is the short name for wireless communication of the fifth generation. From common now 4G it is distinguished by the following three features: high age, low latency and high capacity. Consequently, the use of 5G in education has several distinctive features. First, significant extensions of the Internet of things. There are apps for teachers will be easier to track the statistics associated with their students that will increase learning efficiency. Second, fewer delays and high data transfer rate will allow to extend the application in educational process, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and video. It is assumed that the time lag of when 5G will be reduced to 10 milliseconds or less, and it is 1/30 of the time necessary for the person to blink. This will improve the quality of VR and AR, turning them into educational tools. Third, video conferencing and distance learning may become more rapid and convenient, thus enabled the exchange of educational resources between cities and villages.

Recent headlines such as “5G activates education”, “5G will change education”, “5G will increase the level of education” appear in many media. In the scientific community were carried out lively discussions about the relation between 5G and education. Whether the distribution ties the fifth generation to solve the problems of imbalance of educational resources in different regions? How 5G will affect education in General?

From history we see that the appearance of any technical innovations leads to radical changes in education. However, at different times of technological revolution differently influenced the learning process.

Since education is a personal interest of each of us, we all look forward to a new technological revolution has fundamentally changed the educational system, as the advent of the Internet has turned the prevailing view of business models and financial system. We hope that 5G connectivity will be able to completely change the field of education.

In the 60-ies of the last century, when only began to appear first computers, scientists have wondered about how to replace teachers with machines, even talking about the withering away of the school as a place to gain knowledge. When the Internet emerged, scientists began to encourage the use of network technologies in education. All countries have applied maximum efforts in this field, even more than in business and Finance.

And yet up to the present time in education there have been no significant changes. They say that before the birth of the founder of the company “EPL” (Apple) Steve jobs was formulated “problem jobs”. It consisted in solving the question: why did the appearance of computers has greatly changed all aspects of our lives, besides education? In September 2011, former U.S. Secretary of education Arne Duncan gave the answer, saying that the reason lies in the lack of structural change in the education system.

It was always considered that the introduction of information technologies in education takes place in three stages: changing tools and technologies, changing the model of education and change of school. Learning through technical means and use of PowerPoint refers to the first stage, is connected with the second open online courses and “flipped classes”. All of these changes are associated with the components of the educational system are necessary. If radically not to change the image of the school, that will not happen changes in the structure of education. Real transformations in this sphere are very difficult and even almost impossible.

Education is closely linked to culture, ideology, with the development of body and spirit, with the future of the country, so we can’t even imagine how difficult it is to any conversion. To solve all questions, connected with education, it is not enough just to have the necessary technology. Do not think that the technological revolution can once and for all to solve all the issues of the education sector. This is very unrealistic. Exactly what happens with 5G technology in education.

Exploring the relationship between technology 5G and education we are still limited to matters related to the instrument and the model. In other words, we remain in the first two stages, not thinking about the third.

How to change the image of the school and educational system? In his new work entitled “school of the future: a new concept of education” I gave step-by-step analysis of this issue. Schools should be converted into educational centres of the new type where the result of the application of 5G technologies could provide comfort, timeliness, and sharing. The school system needs to be changed, needs to be created by the state centers quality educational resources and new system of loans must be broken down barriers between schools, public education organisations and families must also apply the concept of “who has the ability, he will be the teacher” and “lesson first.” After you change the image of the school and structure of education, it is necessary to begin to apply modern technologies such as communication 5G, big data and artificial intelligence. Thus it will be possible to create a new learning environment and learning model that focuses on the future.
