Large technology companies often absorb small to use their intellectual property to their advantage and release new products. Last year Apple acquired a lot of startups and now has added another to the list.
New buy Apple is a company Akonia Holographics, a startup from Colorado, who is engaged in the manufacture of lenses for eyeglasses augmented reality (AR). This company was founded in 2012 to work on the technology for storing holographic data, but soon turned his attention to the products AR. Akonia Holographics has more than 200 patents related to holographic systems.
Details of the acquisition are unknown until the end, but Apple confirmed the purchase.
“Apple from time to time buys small company, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” – said representatives of the Corporation from Cupertino.
The acquisition proves that Apple is moving in the development of augmented reality and is preparing to release products with this technology (smart glasses-based AR).
Last year the company introduced a tool ARKit, which allows third-party developers to create applications with augmented reality.
