In may 2018 Apple to pay a fine in the amount of 13 billion euros, received for Ireland provided illegal tax benefits. The Corporation has already transferred most of the amount to the special Deposit, according to Reuters.
By the end of the third fiscal quarter of 2018 Apple sent two tranches in the amount of 4.5 billion euros each into a trust account of the government of Ireland. Thus, the Corporation conditionally paid for 9 of the 13 billion Euro fine imposed on it by the European Commission.
A special account was established by agreement of the representatives of the Apple and the Irish authorities. The Corporation again filed an application to appeal the decision of the European Commission and the final verdict is not yet rendered. In the case of the abolition of the penalty or reduce the total amount of payments, these funds or part will be returned to Apple.
However, many experts believe that the European Commission’s position will not change, as previous appeals have not conceived any action. The Supervisory authority ordered Ireland to collect from the Apple foregone taxes in August 2016. According to the Commission, the Corporation of Cupertino within a few years of paying fiscal contributions at an unreasonably low rate of 0.005%.
