Starting with X in all the iPhone “iPhone” is used Face ID — own face scanner Apple, combining TrueDepth camera, infrared illuminators, “project points” and cameras to build depth maps. On Android the same unified system yet: every manufacturer, including Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus or have to implement support for input “in the face” because of what this function is much less reliable.
The situation will change with Android Q — the next major version of Google operating system, which is due out later this year. As noted by 9to5Google, who studied code APK file, the mobile OS will add a “native” hardware support for sensors that will allow the device to recognize its owner’s face. Thanks to the analogue Face ID, you will not only unlock, but also to authorize purchases and to log in to the application.
Not every company can afford to develop and support their own biometric authentication method. On the Samsung devices, for example, “in the face” you can’t pay, Samsung Pay, and the device LG warned that “face unlock is a secondary unlock method, that makes your phone less secure”. However, thanks to the scanner that is supported in Android at the hardware level, almost any brand will be able to add an alternative Face ID on your smartphone, equipped with depth sensor and other sensors.

Android Q can be released in late summer. The main innovation will be the emergence of a full-fledged “night mode”, the function entry screen and a more flexible privacy settings. The main features of the Android Pie 9, Google said in may last year, so the announcement of the 10 Q can be expected around the same time. And the Android Pie, and its predecessor Oreo was released in August.
